Job summary

Urban Dove Team Charter School in Long Island City is seeking a collaborative UD Team Assistant Teacher who is student-focused and able to support at‑risk youth with both academics and well‑being.

You will work with teachers, social workers, and coaches to tailor instruction, track progress in the LMS, and help implement restorative practices, aiming to help students earn a diploma and build essential job skills.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree; Bachelor's preferred

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in delivering differentiated instruction based on student needs
• Support teachers in effectively managing student behavior through restorative justice
• Collaborate with Social Workers, Student Support Services, Coaches, and other school staff to develop individualized learning plans
• Keep track of the individual progress of all students
• Support teachers in the design and implementation of differentiated assessments that measure progress toward competencies
• Participate in collaborative instructional planning, grade-level teacher teams, and school-wide functions
• Tutor individual students and monitor academic intervention sessions
• Review data and student progress regularly via an electronic learning management system

ABOUT THE POSITION:

UD Team Assistant Teachers are collaborative, self-driven, and attuned to the academic and emotional needs of at‑risk students. They are dedicated to student success, embrace challenges with flexibility, and believe every student has the potential to thrive with the right support.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a distinctive network of sports‑based high schools catering to over‑aged, under‑credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports‑based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support teachers in delivering differentiated instruction based on an array of student needs
• Support teachers in effectively managing student behavior through the lens of restorative justice
• Collaborate with Social Workers, Student Support Services, Coaches, and other school staff to develop the ideal individual learning plan for each student.
• Keep track of the individual progress of all students
• Support teachers in the design and implementation of differentiated assessments that measure progress toward competencies
• Participate in collaborative instructional planning, grade‑level teacher teams, and school‑wide functions
• Tutor individual students and monitor academic intervention sessions
• Review data and student progress regularly via an electronic learning management system

REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate Degree; Bachelor's preferred
• New York State Certification preferred
• Both novice and experienced assistant teachers may apply
• Demonstrated ability to “multi-task” and deliver high quality work
• Commitment to the UD Team mission and core values of Teamwork, Leadership, and Communication
• Commitment to the use of restorative practices and a strength‑based, youth development approach to student issues
• Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
• Must be team‑oriented, with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, a passion for serving at‑risk youth, and a sense of humor
• Ability to actively engage with students and move throughout the school as needed.
• Ability to navigate stairs and assist with setup or materials as required. Accommodations available per ADA.

Compensation: $50,000 to $62,400 annually based on years of experience and education.
