Job summary

Help USA is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the Haven program in Manhattan, NY. In this role you will support the Day Care/Early Learning program, helping children who are affected by homelessness to continue learning and growing.

You will assist with curriculum, lesson plans, and daily activities, ensure safety and sanitation of materials, and engage families to participate in their children’s development.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with NYS Teaching Assistant Certification preferred.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft applications, required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and facilitation of educational curriculum for children.
• Develop and implement lesson plans and daily activity schedules.
• Maintain equipment in clean, safe condition and report repairs.
• Meet and greet children and families; encourage parent involvement.
• Ensure classroom learning centers comply with ECERS, DOH Article 47, and Head Start regulations; set appropriate limits per policy.

What You’ll Do

An important program at many of our Family Shelters is the Day Care/Early Learn program to help children who are impacted by homelessness. As Assistant Teacher, you’ll play an important role in helping the children at one of our sites continue to learn and develop despite the hardships encountered by their families.

Your responsibilities will include assisting in:

• Preparation and facilitation of appropriate and approved educational curriculum to foster the development and growth of all children under your care.
• Development and implementation of lesson plans and appropriate daily program activity schedules.
• Keeping equipment accessible and in good, clean, sanitized condition and removing and reporting damaged or unsafe equipment.
• Meeting and greeting the children and their families daily and encouraging families to volunteer and participate in their children’s program.
• Ensuring that the classroom learning centers are in accordance with ECERS, DOH Article 47, and Head Start Performance Regulations and that appropriate limits are developed for the children in accordance with the Discipline Policy and Procedures.
