Job summary

Easterseals Bluegrass is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support a safe, nurturing classroom environment and assist the lead teacher with developmentally appropriate curriculum. You will help foster social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and ensure child safety and supervision throughout the day.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with childcare experience encouraged. CPR/First Aid certification is recommended, along with strong communication skills and the ability

Responsibilities

• Serve meals on a daily basis as applicable.
• Attend programs and staff meetings as required by the Director.
• Document any situations needing reporting and ensure safety and supervision.

Description

Assistant Teacher will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourage and supports social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The Assistant Teacher will assist classroom teacher in designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines established by Creative Beginnings Child Development Center. The Assistant Teacher will nurture positive relationships with parents, children and colleagues. Also, the Assistant Teacher will ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting physical demands of the position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in providing and maintaining an environment in which children may grow physically, emotionally, socially and mentally.
• Become well acquainted with each child, aware of his needs, and knowledgeable of his family background and home environment.
• Cooperate in maintaining a happy atmosphere in which each child may come to know his freedom and his limitations.
• Serve meals on a daily basis as applicable.
• Attend all programs and staff meetings as required by the Director.
• Make the teachers aware of any situation arising with the children that may need to be documented.
• Assist teacher in keeping a clean and orderly room each day. Assist the teacher in cleaning room and toys. Assist teacher in decorating room to follow curriculum.
• Coordinate the morning and afternoon arrival and departure of children ensuring all children have been signed in/out by parents.
• Assist the teacher in classroom duties, running copies, and cutting out materials for class as needed. Inform teacher of needed supplies, repairs and materials as far in advance as possible.
• Attend classes and workshops for at least the minimum state required 15 hours of yearly training and any additional hours requested by the Director. As well as CPR and First Aid classes when required.

• Conduct yourself in a professional manner. Keep all matters regarding the children in confidence.
