Job summary

DOUGLASS COMMUNITY SERVICES INC is seeking a caring and motivated Assistant Teacher to support a Head Start classroom in Bowling Green, Kentucky. You will work alongside the Lead Teacher to create a safe and engaging learning environment that promotes the development of young children.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must enroll in a CDA credential program within 2 years.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.

What You’ll Do
  • Support a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that promotes children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson planning, curriculum implementation, documentation, and daily classroom activities
  • Provide positive guidance and build strong relationships that support children’s learning and family engagement
  • Prepare classroom materials and maintain routines that support healthy habits, including nutrition and self-care practices
  • Serve as Lead Teacher in their absence, helping coordinate and manage daily classroom operations
  • Maintain communication with families and staff while ensuring confidentiality, completing required trainings, and following mandated reporting responsibilities
What We’re Looking For
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must enroll in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential program (to be completed within 2 years of hire)
  • CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain
  • Basic computer skills including word processing and data entryco
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with children and families
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with initiative and sound judgment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with young children in an early learning setting
