YMCA of Upper Palmetto is seeking an Assistant Swim Team Coach for part-time involvement in Fort Mill. You will support the Head Coach and Aquatics Director, oversee daily team operations, and assist with events and volunteer coordination.

This role requires engaging with swimmers and parents and promoting the YMCA mission. Ideal candidates bring coaching experience in competitive swimming, strong communication, and a safe, mature presence.

Qualifications

• 16 years or older.
• Education or personal experience related to swimming and diving.
• Coaching experience with competitive swimming.
• CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers or Lifeguarding with First aid; certification within 60 days if not current.
• Stable temperament and maturity.
• Ability to communicate with people at all levels.
• Positive attitude aligned with YMCA mission.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs and perform other physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting, training, managing and evaluating staff and volunteers.

Assistant Swim Team Coach-Part Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Part Time

Under supervision of the Head Swim Coach or Aquatics Director and consistent with the
Christian mission of the YMCA, the Assistant Swim Team Coach is responsible for the overall organization, management and daily operation of the YMCA swim team program. TheAssistant Swim Team Coach will assist the Head Swim Team Coach or Aquatic Director with various branch activities such as special events, and other activities that occur on various occasions.

• Assist in recruiting, training, managing and evaluating all staff and volunteers.
• Assist in supervising the general facilities on‑site (pool, pool deck, equipment storage, locker rooms, classrooms) as well as off‑site upkeep, cleanliness and proper usage during and following program use.
• Remains current on all legal matters that relate to swim team as well as all issues regarding YMCA and dual membership associations.
• Assists in developing a working committee of volunteers to serve as policy makers and advisors for program.
• Communicates with swimmers and parents on team policy and activities.
• Maintain team roster and individual meet achievements for each team member.
• Pursue educational opportunities through the National YMCA Competitive Swimming Coaches Association and the American Swimming Coaches Association.
• Attends as many as possible of organizational meetings for swim league and swim team parents’ group meetings.
• Attends all swim team functions and is responsible for conduct of team members and parents.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
• Maintain appropriate relationships with consumers.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high‑risk activities and supervising consumers.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations by employees, volunteers, and consumers.
• Report all suspicions or allegations of abuse immediately to their supervisor.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Education or personal experience related to swimming and diving
• Coaching experience with competitive swimming
• Safety training for coaches and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen OR Lifeguarding (including deep water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen (If you are not currently certified, you must become certified within 60 days of hire)
• Must exhibit a stable temperament and a high degree of maturity.
