Job summary

Greater Wichita YMCA is seeking an Assistant Swim Instructor in El Dorado, KS to support aquatic instruction under the Aquatic Director. You will help deliver YMCA Youth Swim Lessons and promote swimmer safety for participants of all ages.

Under supervision, you will prepare lesson plans, demonstrate skills, and maintain records while building positive relationships with students and parents. This role requires reliability and a willingness to participate in trainings and events.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction and supervise participants to reach individual goals.
• Demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Assist in instructing and evaluating swim lesson participants; prepare lesson plans.
• Build authentic relationships with students and parents.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules.
• Submit completed attendance and progress records on time.
• Organize and store class equipment; report facility issues in writing.
• Ensure the safety of participants.
• Follow and enforce YMCA policies and emergency procedures.
• Be prepared to implement emergency procedures.
• Report incidents within 24 hours to supervisor.
• Work hours as scheduled; start/end classes on time; stay to answer questions and clean up.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.
• Support Strong Community Campaign fundraising.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Maintain a safe, positive learning environment for progressive aquatic skills.

Job Responsibilities

• Must possess ability to assist the instruction of participants and effectively supervise and motivate class participants to reach their individual goals.
• Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of and ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Responsible for assisting in instructing and evaluating swim lesson participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing lesson plans accordingly.
• Responsible for building effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.
• Responsible for conveying information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate.
• Submitting completed records on time (i.e. attendance, progress reports).
• Organizing and putting away needed class equipment. Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor in writing.
• Responsible for the safety of participants.
• Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
• Responsible for being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
• Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and providing to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
• Working hours as scheduled; including beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant/parent questions as needed and cleaning up supplies.
• Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
• Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Compliance with Assistant Swim Instructor job responsibilities will ensure a safe, positive learning environment for progressive aquatic skills.

Summary

Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director, the Assistant Swim Instructor will assist in providing aquatic instruction using guidelines of the YMCA Youth Swim Lessons (YSL) to individuals enrolled in swim lessons and promote the general safety of all swimmers.
