Job summary

The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in San Diego is seeking an Assistant Swim Coach to support the Barracuda Swim Team for swimmers aged 5–18. The role involves leading training under the Barracuda Head Coach, delivering instruction, and promoting safety and team spirit in line with JCC policies.

You will assist with practice and meet scheduling, participate in practices many hours per day, and contribute to meet attendance and team events while upholding SafeSport guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Pass state and federal background check.
• Maintain required USA Swimming coaching certifications.
• Minimum 2 years experience developing swimmers from entry level to high-level competitors.
• Advanced knowledge of competitive swimming skills and ability to teach positively.
• Proficient with Team Unify and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structured training programs for all skill levels.
• Coach per USA Swimming guidelines and best practices.
• Support program growth and participant engagement.
• Participate in team practices 2.5–5 hours/day, 4–5 days/week.
• Attend swim meets and team events.
• Maintain communication with swimmers/parents within USA Swimming and SafeSport guidelines.
• Assist Head Coach with practice and meet schedules.
• Engage and support all swimmers, competitive and recreational.

Job description

PAY RATE/STATUS: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour DOE / Part-Time, Non-Exempt. Under the supervision of the Barracuda Head Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach helps develop, organize, and deliver all aspects of the JCC Barracuda Swim Team program for swimmers ages 5–18. Provides leadership, instruction, and motivation in alignment with JCC policies, fostering a safe, supportive environment that promotes skill development and team spirit.

Duties

• assist with structured training programs for all skill levels (technique, endurance, speed)
• coach per USA Swimming guidelines and best practices
• support program growth
• participate in team practices (2.5–5 hours/day, 4–5 days/week)
• attend swim meets
• participate in team events (parent meetings, social gatherings)
• maintain communication with swimmers/parents within USA Swimming and SafeSport guidelines
• assist Head Coach with practice and meet schedules
• engage and support all swimmers, competitive and recreational
