The role supports the primary attending surgeon to ensure safe, highly regulated extracorporeal bypass and open-heart procedures. The position is located in La Jolla, California at Scripps Health.

Key Responsibilities

• First Assistant in Surgery: Act as the primary surgical first assistant for adult cardiac procedures, including CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aortic surgeries, and off-pump procedures.
• Team Compliance: Fulfill surgical team composition requirements as mandated by California Code of Regulations Title 22, §70435.
• Call Coverage: Participate in a structured call schedule to support emergencies, after-hours, and weekend adult cardiac cases.

Qualifications

• Education: Degree from an accredited Medical School (MD or DO).
• Licensure: Unrestricted Medical License to practice in the State of California, issued by the Medical Board of California.
• Credentialing: Must be able to obtain and maintain active surgical assisting clinical privileges at the affiliated facility.
