Job summary

ARCO Companies is seeking an Assistant Superintendent (New Grad 2027) to support field teams on construction projects in Dallas, TX and beyond. You will partner with the project manager to plan activities, monitor safety, and contribute to timely, high-quality project delivery.

As a recent graduate, you will learn to read plans, coordinate subcontractors, and manage daily site activities while upholding ARCO's safety culture and customer service standards.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate with a related construction degree or equivalent.
  • 0–1 year of construction exposure; internships/co-ops favored.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook and scheduling tools.
  • Ability to read plans and blueprints or willingness to learn.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license in home state.

Responsibilities

  • Attend post-award review meetings to receive project details.
  • Assist PM in planning schedule, org structure and manpower needs.
  • Direct construction activities to meet specs and timelines.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure integration with schedules.
  • Prepare progress and cost reports reflecting actual costs.
  • Review requisitions, invoices, and other major reports.
  • Maintain daily site diary and report progress to PM.
  • Support safety program across all project phases.

Assistant Superintendent (New Grad 2027)

A Day in the Life:

  • Attend the post-award review meeting to receive project information and details for preplanningbefore construction
  • Participate with the project manager in preparing a schedule of construction activities and theirsequence, the organization structure, staff selection, and the manpower and constructionequipment requirements of the project
  • Direct and control the total construction project to meet specifications and within the allotted timeschedule in an efficient manner to produce the expected profit
  • Assist the project manager/engineer in their duties including prompt shipmentof materials and permanent equipment and obtaining approvals of shop drawings and materialsamples
  • Coordinate the activities of subcontractors to permit them to perform their work effectively and tointegrate it with project schedules and progress
  • Inform all supervisors and subcontractors promptly of any construction schedule changes
  • Assist in the preparation of all job progress and cost reports to accurately reflect actual costs
  • Review and approve all requisitions, field purchase orders, invoices, and other significant reportsand documents
  • Cooperate with the owner and his representatives, keeping them informed of constructionprogress
  • Cooperate with architects or owner representatives on an amicable basis, but in the long-terminterest of the company
  • Hold job site meetings with project manager and the regional manager
  • Report regularly to the project manager to keep them constantly informed on job progress, plans,and problems that could significantly affect costs or schedules
  • Maintain a daily diary to permanently record all significant project facts, events, conditions,visitors, owner representative contacts, commitments, agreements, and approvals
  • Direct adherence to the company’s safety program in all phases and areas of the project
  • Organize people, tools, and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to accomplishdesired results
  • Demonstrate leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, direct others, andeffectively address conflict
  • Exhibit commitment to quality by evaluating project-related processes, making necessary changes, using customer input to make improvements, and meeting/exceeding internal and external customer expectations
  • Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees while maintaining a constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Recent college graduate with a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 0-1 year of relavant construction experience; internships, co-ops or field experience preferred
  • Computer skills: proficiency in using Word, Excel, Outlook, and project scheduling programs
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and bluepints, or willingness to learn
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in your state of residence
