Responsibilities

• Reviews project documents to determine scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
• Plans jobsite layout and initiates startup activities, including site security, trailers, utilities, and material storage.
• Directs field engineers in initial survey and layout; verifies elevations with third-party surveyors before foundation work begins.
• Plans daily and weekly craft activities and provides technical instructions to foremen.
• Oversees jobsite safety and implements safety plans and procedures.
• Orders materials and small tools from approved suppliers.
• Inspects field work and subcontracted work to ensure high-quality workmanship.
• Provides guidance to resolve day-to-day construction problems with architects/engineers.
• Monitors weekly labor costs and productivity; adjusts crew sizes and equipment as needed.
• Monitors equipment use and maintenance; ensures compliance with laws and codes.
• Manages scheduling of governmental inspections for occupancy certificates.
• Administers Safety & Health Manual and health/safety of employees.
• Maintains relationships with owners, architects, consultants and other stakeholders.
• Performs close-out tasks and maintains daily activity reports.

Description

This position assists the assistant superintendent I and superintendent in the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite.

Responsibilities:

Assists the assistant superintendent I and superintendent in the following: .

1. Reviews record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine the nature and scope of the project, the materials to be utilized, manpower requirements (by craft) for each construction phase, equipment needs, etc.
2. Assists with planning the physical layout of the jobsite to effectively use all available space; initiates startup activities, which include site security preparations, placement of office trailers, utility hookups, etc.; designates where building materials will be stored, parking areas, placement of cranes, hoists, etc.
3. Helps direct field engineers in the initial survey and layout of the jobsite; ensures that all dimensional control lines and elevations are correct and verified by certified third party site surveyors before foundation work begins
4. Plans the daily and weekly activities for each craft, including detailed schedule forecasts, within the scope of the overall construction schedule and provides detailed technical instructions for each foreman to ensure a clear understanding of the work, the methods, manpower resources, and expected completion date; works with the project office staff to resolve any ambiguities in the plans and drawings before actual construction begins
5. In charge of the overall safety of the jobsite, including the implementation of the safety plans and procedures
6. Orders self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers
7. Inspects all field construction work in progress, including work that is subcontracted, and ensures that uniformly high-quality workmanship is maintained during each construction segment, pointing out deficiencies promptly to responsible parties and follows up to ensure that deficiencies are corrected
8. Provides technical guidance and assistance in resolving day-to-day construction problems encountered and investigates alternative work methods and materials that will improve efficiency and work quality, working closely with architects, engineers, and consulting firms as necessary
9. Monitors weekly labor costs for accuracy and conformance with established budget and takes corrective action to improve productivity when labor costs exceed expected norms; investigates reasons for delays in the construction schedule, adjusting leadership, crew sizes, equipment, and other factors as necessary
10. Throughout the project, monitors equipment use, maintenance, and cost
11. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and codes relating to construction activities
12. Manages the scheduling of all governmental inspections of all work necessary to obtain a certificate of occupancy
13. Administers the company Safety & Health Manual; assumes responsibility for the health and safety of employees, including designation of first aid areas, emergency treatment facilities, accompanying OSHA inspectors on jobsite visits, correcting observed safety hazards, etc.
14. Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with owners and owner representatives, architects, consulting firms and other parties with financial interest in the project; attempts to resolve problems at the lowest practical level through direct negotiations with concerned individuals
15. Performs a variety of tasks associated with completion of a project, including close-out punch lists, demobilization, as-built documents, etc.
16. Maintains a detailed and accurate daily report of all activity associated with field construction activities

Requirements:

• B.S. in construction management/science, engineering or related field or, in lieu of college degree, 4 years of commercial construction trade experience
• Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment)
• Entry level position
