Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• 3 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in gas distribution, consumption, and inspections or related field.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates operations of the Gas Department and contracted companies overseeing construction, maintenance and operation of the gas system.
• Manages supervisory, technical and support staff including assigning, reviewing, and promoting personnel; ensures standards and safety.
• Oversees daily work activities, prioritizes tasks, monitors progress and assists with complex situations.
• Oversees projects to ensure standards compliance; advises field crews and reviews materials and supply requests.
• Designs and implements administrative systems to increase production and reduce costs; maintains safety programs.

Assistant Superintendent, Gas

Annual Salary Range: $56,551.87 - $70,689.84 Grade: 28

The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in government Gas Department, located in the heart of Central Louisianato perform technical tasks at the managerial level to oversee the construction projects, general maintenance and operations of the Gas Department of the City of Alexandria.This position is subject to 24-hour call.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directs and coordinates the operations of the Gas Department and contracted companies whose work includes construction, maintenance and operation of the gas system.
• Manages subordinate supervisory, technical and support staff; supervisory duties include instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, and recommending and approving transfers/promotions, discipline, termination, and salary increases; reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed.
• Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
• Oversees projects and work activities to monitor progress and insure compliance with established standards; advises field crews in techniques and practices; reviews reports; reviews and approves requests for materials and supplies.
• Designs, plans and implements administrative systems and procedures necessary to increase production and reduce operating costs; writes and amends safety rules and regulations; oversees the administration of the department’s safety program.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering or related field;
• supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in gas distribution, consumption, and inspections or related field;
• or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must possess and maintain certification as an inspector for steel and plastic welding.
• Must obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license

Work Schedule:

40 hrs per week, may work weekends and holidays. This position is subject to 24-hour call
