Job summary

Yates Construction seeks an Assistant Superintendent I to support the Superintendent, oversee trade labor, and help manage areas of responsibility on the project site. The role focuses on coordination, planning manpower, and ensuring contract compliance.

The incumbent collaborates with project managers to maintain schedules, read blueprints, and review specifications. Strong MS Office skills and an understanding of construction principles are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.
• Knowledge of basic construction and/or engineering principles is expected.
• Knowledge of basic business principles to project and monitor expenses.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks assigned by the Superintendent and communicate progress.
• Assist Superintendent with planning manpower for the project.
• Review project contract documents, specs, and drawings.
• Participate in meetings to coordinate work and manage labor concerns; take minutes as required.
• Provide field support to ensure contract compliance and quality control.
• Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontractors.

Job description

The Assistant Superintendent I is responsible for performing tasks as assigned by the Superintendent. The ASUPI oversees trade labor in particular areas of the project as determined by management. Develops and applies foundational construction knowledge to begin to manage areas of responsibility.

Primary Duties:

• Accomplishing tasks assigned by the Superintendent and communicating their progress.
• Assisting Superintendent with planning manpower
• Reviewing and becoming familiar with project contract documents, specifications, and drawings
• Participating in meetings to coordinate work and manage labor concerns, taking minutes as required.
• Providing field support to construction superintendents and project managers to help ensure contract compliance, quality control and maintenance of the site.
• Assisting in developing scopes of work for each subcontractor
• Assisting with constructability reviews
• Attending preconstruction meetings with all subcontractors prior to beginning each phase of work
• Assisting with the completion of project close-out
• Assisting in coordinating punch list items and procedures
• Assisting in management of project permit process
• Assisting with planning weekly work activities for a trade crew
• Assisting with planning labor needs for a given task
• Supporting and participating in schedule development and updates
• Assisting with the change management system by soliciting, receiving, and reviewing quotations to aid management in IOCC and Change Order development.
• Review and distribute RFIs, submittals under supervision.
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of the site logistics plan for the project

Qualifications:

• An undergraduate University degree or higher (preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field) is preferred. Other relevant education, training or work experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledge of basic construction and/or engineering principles.
• Knowledge of basic business principles is sufficient to project and monitor expenses.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions and engineering/architectural drawings.
