Job summary

Esplanade Golf & Country Club in Naples, FL is seeking a full-time Assistant Superintendent to contribute to golf course maintenance and member experience. You will supervise staff, manage schedules, and assist in agronomic planning under the Golf Course Superintendent.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of turfgrass management, supervisory experience, and comfort with budgeting and basic computer tools. A four-year degree is preferred; GCSAA member or apprentice is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years turf grass management experience.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • A four-year college degree is preferred but not required.
  • GCSAA member or apprentice preferred.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
  • Must possess basic computer skills (Word and Excel).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains foreman, irrigation technician and other employees in the maintenance department.
  • Prepares weekly schedules for foreman, irrigation staff and other maintenance personnel.
  • Monitors inventory and usage of maintenance equipment, preventive maintenance, and safety training.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent on annual budget and maintenance recordkeeping.
  • Contributes to short- and long-term agronomic strategies for course upkeep.
  • Calibrates and operates pesticide sprayers.
  • Follows Troon HR guidelines and communicates with members about maintenance activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

We are seeking a motivated individual who is interested in contributing to a positive experience for our members and guests while continuing togrow their knowledge of golf club operations. As an associate ofTroon, you'll contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendents' supervision, the Assistant Superintendent participates in all maintenance of the golf course; tees, greens, fairways, roughs, cart paths, etc. Supervises the maintenance staff and does related work as required.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and trains foreman, irrigations technician and other employees in the maintenance department
  • Prepares weekly schedules for foreman, irrigations staff and other employees in the maintenance department
  • Monitors inventory of all maintenance equipment and the use of the equipment, preventative maintenance schedule, and safety training
  • Works closely with Superintendent in managing annual budget and maintenance recordkeeping
  • Works closely with Superintendent in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies to maintenance of the golf course daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fertilization, irrigation, etc. schedules
  • Calibrates and operates pesticide sprayers
  • Institute and implement all Troon Human Resources guidelines
  • Assists Superintendent in informing members about present and future maintenance activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
Education And Experience Requirements
  • 1-3 years turf grass management experience required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • A four-year college degree preferred, but not required
  • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management
  • Must possess basic computer skills - Word and Excel
  • Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business
  • Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail
  • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions
  • Physical activity including long periods (6-8 hours) of standing, walking, bending, and scooping
  • Regularly to reach with arms and hands
  • Occasionally will be required to lift up to 30lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards
  • Noise level is typically moderate to loud
  • Work extended hours during golf and holiday season
  • Work weekends and holidays
