Position Title: Manager in Training

POSITION SUMMARY
As a Manager in Training, you will step into a full-time leadership role designed to support our continued growth and expansion. This is not a temporary position or a role on the sidelines; you will take on meaningful store leadership responsibilities while gaining broad operational experience before transitioning into a permanent management assignment. You will help inspire team members to live out the America’s Thrift mission and values, support financial and operational goals, develop people, and build expertise across sales, production, donations, loss prevention, merchandising, customer service, and store operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the Asset Protection team and People & Culture Business Partner to investigate incidents related to company assets, equipment, personnel, or operations and support appropriate follow-up in coordination with the Manager III and District Manager.
- Use independent judgment to delegate daily tasks to supervisors and team members to fulfill operational requirements effectively.
- Coordinate and verify the accuracy of deposits and currency exchanges and promptly alert management to cash, register, or operational concerns.
- Lead and inspire a dynamic team while cultivating a supportive, accountable, and efficient work environment.
- Uphold company policies, local regulations, safety protocols, standards, and values to support operational excellence.
- Conduct regular performance assessments and provide constructive feedback, coaching, and guidance for continued improvement.
- Develop team member behavior and performance to support growth and advancement with America’s Thrift.
- Champion a culture rooted in trust, employee growth, accountability, and sustained engagement through leading by example.
- Provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action, when necessary, to supervisors and team members.
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation processes and ensure required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Use company reports to create and update sales floor layouts to maximize sales potential.
- Manage inventory levels across merchandise categories, supporting optimal production levels and merchandise quality for revenue generation.
- Oversee the smooth flow of donations while ensuring adherence to company standards, safety protocols, security measures, and applicable regulations.
- Support store operations, resources, and budgets to help meet or exceed established objectives.
- Uphold presentation and merchandising standards on the sales floor.
- Analyze sales performance, identify improvement opportunities, and help implement strategies to drive sales and achieve targets.
- Support the Manager III in executing promotional activities, marketing campaigns, and special events to drive traffic and sales.
- Support the Manager III in daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash management, and staff supervision.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training new team members as needed.
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Maintain high standards of visual merchandising so displays are appealing, organized, and effectively showcase merchandise.
- Address customer and team member concerns promptly and professionally, prioritizing service and a positive workplace experience.
- Foster a culture of consistent, outstanding service for internal and external customers, including team members, donors, shoppers, and charity partners.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and team members by monitoring and reinforcing safety and security procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong leadership and people-development skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, train, and develop team members to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve results.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills with keen attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Previous leadership experience managing a team of 15 or more employees.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
- Ability and willingness to relocate within Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, or surrounding states.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday, primarily on tile and concrete surfaces.
- Ability to bend and reach at waist and overhead levels and perform repetitive movements associated with retail, processing, and operational activities.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, climb, push, pull, handle, and carry merchandise, equipment, or other materials as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to safely use ladders or other approved equipment and work at heights of up to approximately 14 feet.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for handling, grasping, feeling, and operating equipment and technology.
- Must have the visual and auditory ability necessary to communicate effectively, observe store conditions, inspect merchandise, monitor safety, and perform essential job responsibilities.
- Must be able to move throughout all areas of the store, including the sales floor, processing areas, stockrooms, donation areas, loading areas, and outdoor workspaces.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology, including computers, tablets, telephones, printers, and point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and respond quickly to operational, customer service, staffing, and safety-related situations.
- Must be able to work both indoors in a semi-controlled retail environment and outdoors where exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures may occur.
- Ability to tolerate normal retail and donation-processing conditions, including exposure to dust, odors, noise, and second-hand merchandise.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
- Regular travel is required during the training period and may be required afterward based on business needs.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
