The Job in a Nutshell:
The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command and is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the store, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Greet and service customers per company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide leadership and professionalism as a manager.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
- Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure products customers want are in-stock.
- Handle special orders per company policy.
- Answer the phone per standards and spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to departments.
- Train staff on exemplary customer service and hold them accountable.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meet or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins.
- Maintain in-stock conditions and monitor product mix, including analyzing departments for top sellers and slow movers, and introducing new products per policy.
- Ensure perishables are rotated and stocked properly.
- Manage markdowns per standards.
- Assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel.
- Train staff, assign tasks, and oversee task completion.
- Ensure accurate scheduling and task assignment using company tools.
- Partner with department managers for staff sharing and cross-training.
- Ensure staff has product knowledge to meet customer needs.
- Assist in performance evaluations and wage increases.
- Participate in hiring and disciplinary processes.
- Communicate clearly with staff, conduct staff meetings, and post company information.
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
- Manage Ulti-time edits timely.
- Assist in training, coaching, and developing staff.
- Encourage staff to increase nutritional and product knowledge.
- Answer customer questions per standards and policies.
- Complete operational responsibilities daily.
- Ensure timely completion of store paperwork and reports.
- Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage.
- Manage business disruptions as needed.
- Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and 45 hours per week.
- Support decisions made by the home office and follow communications.
- Be a workplace leader setting standards of excellence.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED required; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or related retail; natural foods experience a plus.
- Ability to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to pass food safety training and obtain certifications as required by law.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications through continuing education.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
