Job summary

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland is seeking an experienced Assistant Softball Coach for our fastpitch program. The role includes creating practice plans, managing game operations, and leading off-season training to develop student-athletes both on the field and in character.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree (preferred), have substantial coaching experience at HS/club/collegiate levels, and possess CPR/AED and First Aid certification prior to the season.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma required.
• Significant coaching experience in competitive fastpitch softball at HS/club/college level preferred.
• Knowledge of competitive fastpitch softball, training methods, athlete development.
• Experience coaching in a varsity-level or similarly competitive program preferred.
• Coaching certifications/credentials preferred.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or required prior to the start of the season.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute pre-season and season practice plans, including drills.
• Manage end-to-end of competitive fastpitch games, home and away.
• Develop and execute out-of-season programs such as strength conditioning and winter workouts.
• Develop and implement a recruiting program to attract student-athletes who succeed in class and on the field.
• Manage administrative and school-related responsibilities, including student events.
• Interact with student athletes and OLGC staff in a positive, professional manner.
• Model the school’s values and commitments to student-athlete development.

Assistant Softball Coach

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School seeks an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Softball Coach for our Softball Program. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven coach to collaborate and build upon Good Counsel’s strong tradition of athletic excellence while developing student-athletes both in competition and in character. There are exceptional opportunities in the Good Counsel Softball Program for former fastpitch softball players and/or experienced fastpitch softball coaches. Ideal candidates will have a passion for the unique game of fastpitch softball. These candidates will also have, among other qualifications, effective communication skills, strong organizational skills, earned a high school or college degree and have previous successful experience playing and/or coaching competitive fastpitch softball.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• The development and execution of pre-season and season practice plans, including actively participating in variety of drills during practice and other activities, and working to achieve practice objectives;
• The management from beginning to end of competitive fastpitch games, both home and away;
• The development and execution of out-of-season programs such as strength conditioning, fall and winter training, and other workouts as may be held;
• The development and implementation of a recruiting program to attract student-athletes who will be successful in the classroom as well as on the field; and
• The management of various administrative and school-related responsibilities, including participating as appropriate in student-focused events.

In addition, OLGC Softball Program staff

• Interact with student athletes of different ages and skill levels in a positive, encouraging, and professional manner
• Interact with a variety of OLGC faculty and staff in a positive and professional manner.
• Embrace the core values of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and models behavior consistent with those values.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma required.
• Significant successful coaching experience in competitive fast pitch softball at the high school, club, collegiate, or comparable level is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of competitive fast pitch softball, training methodology, athlete development, and preparation.
• Experience coaching in a varsity-level or similarly competitive program preferred.
• Appropriate coaching certifications and/or credentials are preferred.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or required prior to the start of the season.

EXPERIENCE

Must have previous successful experience either playing for a competitive fastpitch softball program at the collegiate and/or travel program level(s); and/or coaching a competitive fastpitch softball at the high school, travel, and/or collegiate level(s).

• Have an advanced understanding of and passion for the game of fastpitch softball.
• Have effective communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to interact in a positive, encouraging, and professional manner with a variety of students and OLGC staff.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.

REQUIRED WORK HOURS

The softball regular season generally runs from February through May, with practices, games, and postseason responsibilities occurring throughout the season and offseason.
