Job summary

Washington County Schools (TN) seeks an Assistant Coach to manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practices, promoting individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

The role includes holding tryouts, assessing players, planning regular practice schedules, and coaching students on rules, equipment, and techniques. You will monitor academic eligibility and maintain records, while modeling professional conduct for the school community.

Qualifications

  • Not less than a high school education or GED.
  • At least one year of experience preferred but not required; training provided.
  • Meets necessary health and physical qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Holds tryouts for team prospects and encourages students to participate.
  • Assesses skills and determines team members and assigns positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
  • Coaches and instructs players regarding rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

  • Models sportsmanship and conveys proper conduct to players, staff, officials, and spectators.
  • Communicates with the Principal and Athletic Director about policies and issues.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, physicals, equipment inventory, and related records.

Role: Assistant Coach

Education and Experience
  • Not less than a high school education or general equivalency diploma;
  • At least one (1) year of experience is preferred, but not required, so that with appropriate training, service may be provided in the specific role for which employed;
  • Meets necessary health and physical qualifications.
Summary

Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Holds tryouts for team prospects and encourages students to participate.
  • Assesses skills and determines team members and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are maintained.
  • Models sportsmanship-like behavior and reflects appropriate conduct towards players, school community, officials, and spectators regarding policies, procedures, performances, and problems.
  • Communicates with the Principal and Athletic Director regarding policies, procedures, performances, and problems.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, physicals, equipment/uniform inventory, and other related records.
Physical Demands

This job requires lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary grades, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs or more.

Vocational Preparation
