Gray Construction is seeking an experienced Assistant Site Safety Manager to join our team in Portland, OR. The role focuses on enforcing safety protocols, conducting daily safety meetings, and administering site-specific training to subcontractors and team members while maintaining compliance with OSHA regulations.

The ideal candidate has OSHA 30 Hour certification, a related degree or equivalent experience in industrial construction, and a proactive, collaborative approach to safety leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5+ years of related experience.
  • OSHA 30 Hour card.
  • Industrial construction experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Energetic, self-motivated and collaborative.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the use of safety equipment as required by OSHA and company regulations.
  • Ensure project staff comply with safety requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate safety records.
  • Keep work areas neat, safe and orderly.
  • Investigate incidents and complete reports.
  • Counsel team members and subcontractors on safety non-compliance.
  • Lead safety meetings and jobsite reviews.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings.
  • Provide orientation and site-specific training.
  • Communicate and enforce Gray’s safety program on site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We Expect

  • Enforce the use of safety equipment/clothing as required by OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Reinforce that team members on the project site are in compliance with the safety requirements of the company.
  • Ensure that appropriate safety records are maintained.
  • Ensure that work areas are maintained in a neat, safe and orderly fashion.
  • Investigate cause of an incident and complete reports as required.
  • Assist Site Manager in administrative counseling to team members and subcontractors who are in non-compliance with safety requirements.
  • Hold safety meetings/jobsite review as part of coordination meetings.
  • Responsible for conducting daily safety meetings.
  • Responsible for conducting orientation and jobsite specific training.
  • Responsible for the communication, implementation and enforcement of Gray’s safety program on site.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Who We Want

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR 5+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • OSHA 30 Hour card.
  • Experience in an industrial construction environment is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Should be an energetic, self-motivated individual who has a passion for collaboration and professional development.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The team member is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level is generally moderate to loud. Overtime may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Indirectly manages subcontractor safety personnel.
