Job summary

Pacific West Environmental & Infrastructure seeks an Assistant Safety Manager to support safety operations across our projects, focusing on compliance, field engagement, and proactive risk management in construction, environmental, industrial, and transportation contexts.

The role blends field and office work, requires traveling to project sites, and offers opportunities to drive safe work practices, perform site audits, and support training and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of safety experience in construction/environmental/industrial services or related field operations.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • CHST, CSP, ASP, or other relevant certifications - highly preferred.
  • Experience with OSHA, DOT, FRA, MSHA, EPA or rail safety regulations.
  • DOT compliance experience, highly preferred.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and jobsite audits.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both field and office personnel.
  • Ability to coach employees while maintaining accountability standards.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular job site visits, audits, and inspections across project locations.
  • Assist in delivering safety orientation and onboarding training for new hires.
  • Conduct ongoing safety training for field employees on OSHA requirements, company policies, and customer specific protocols.
  • Reinforce a proactive safety culture through coaching and field engagement.
  • Support leadership in addressing repeat safety violations or unsafe behaviors.
  • Maintain safety records, certifications, training logs and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with DOT, OSHA, FRA, MSHA, and customer-specific compliance requirements.
  • Ensure incident reports, corrective action documentation, and inspection records are completed.
  • Support internal audits and external regulatory inspections.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen and operational leadership to ensure safety remains integrated into project execution.
  • Provide recommendations to improve safety procedures and reduce operational risk.
  • Support emergency response planning and incident preparedness efforts.
  • Attend meetings and planning sessions in various regional offices.
  • Complete administrative reporting and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and leadership teams on safety initiatives and workforce planning.
  • Identify safety risks and partner with field leadership to implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor compliance with safety policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support field teams in maintaining proper PPE usage, site documentation, and safe work practices.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Participate in pre-job planning meetings and job hazard analysis reviews.
  • All other duties as assigned.
