Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. seeks an Assistant Resident Engineer to oversee administration of a major highway construction project in Western North Carolina. The role includes QA/QC, staff supervision, and client relationship management.

The candidate will work with NCDOT and local officials while ensuring safety, quality, and timely delivery of project milestones. Immigration sponsorship is not provided except TN visa eligibility.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent; 4+ years CM/CI or engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
• Professional Engineering license preferred.
• Experience working with local clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the administration of NCDOT central let contracts.
• Responsible for project QA/QC in the assigned region.
• Maintain and build client relationships.
• Hire, train, develop, and conduct performance reviews for staff.
• Supervise contract construction work, establish engineering controls for the contractor, and inspect the construction project.

JMT's Sylva Construction Management Team is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to be responsible for managing the administration of a major highway construction project in Western North Carolina.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Manage the administration of NCDOT central let contracts
• Responsible for project QA/QC in the assigned region

• Hire, train, develop, and conduct performance reviews for staff

Required Experience

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 4+ years of experience working in the CM/CI or engineering field
• Ability to supervise lower-level employees and provide guidance and mentorship in both highway and bridge construction

Qualifications Preferred

• Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or Construction Management
• Professional Engineering license.
• Experience working with local clients

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a mixture of both general office environment and outside environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Outside environment will require the ability to work safely with exposure to hazards associated with construction sites including night work, heights, highway traffic and traversing rough terrain.
