Position
Full Time Assistant Resident Engineer for WSP’s Antioch, California office. The role supports the PMCM team and may work on projects spanning multiple disciplines such as roadway/highway and transit/rail construction.
Location
Antioch, California (candidate may also be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, greater Sacramento area, or Central Valley).
Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge of client construction specifications and contract management.
- Supervise, develop, and train field staff and construction support staff assigned to a project.
- Supervise and conduct inspections and reviews of work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project drawings.
- Perform field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
- Verify and review project documentation for acceptance, including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost‑reduction proposals, traffic‑control modifications, and related items.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors.
- Manage the construction management team, including sub‑consultants.
- Review and make recommendations for contractors’ project schedules and non‑conforming work.
- Attend and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
- Meet with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering‑related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge).
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g., Caltrans).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Valid driver’s license.
- The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans.
- Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields.
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
- Familiarity with e‑Builder, MS Office, MS Project, and other PC software used on design and construction projects.
- Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.

Compensation
Expected salary (all locations): $138,100 - $205,040.
