Job summary

HNTB is seeking a seasoned construction project manager to lead field management on complex infrastructure programs. You will guide scope, fee quotes, and contract activities, ensuring conformance with contractual requirements and SDA delivery practices.

The role focuses on coordinating staff, reviewing drawings and schedules, and delivering projects up to $10M while mentoring teams and pursuing mini-mega opportunities with clients.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scope and fee quotations; prepare technical proposals and contracts under SCA.
  • Coordinate project activities, establish priorities and staff to jobs; prepare daily activity reports; monitor progress and resolve field issues.
  • Oversee project controls including checking contractor controls and coordinating schedules; review constructors schedule.
  • Review submittals for conformance to plans and specifications; develop strategies with contractor for submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
  • Implement SDA on each project; lead development and execution of the project management plan; mentor team to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and specs; develop strategies with contractor for submittals.
  • Confirm change order requests; develop estimates; negotiate costs; write change orders.
  • Provide cost control on projects and quality control within discipline.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders to assist with business development and pursuit of strategic projects; lead proposal development and presentations.
  • May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of construction staff; plan staff reporting and performance reviews.

What We're Looking For

This opportunity entails being responsible for overall field management of HNTB's contract, administration, and coordination on projects of a diverse and complex nature. Monitors activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements. Provides technical leadership for complex or unique assignments. Reviews drawings, specifications, and installation procedures for constructability. May recommend changes to design. Represents projects at meetings and conferences. Typically responsible for running projects up to $10M in construction value and key role in mini-mega project pursuits.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Coordinates project activities establishes priorities and staff to jobs. Prepares Summary Inspection Report of Daily activities. Monitors contractor progress and compares with the reviewed progress schedule. Resolves technical field issues, and coordinates with Architects and Engineers for timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
  • Oversees project controls including checking contractors controls and coordinating schedules, reviews constructors schedule.
  • Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives. Identifies and resolves non-compliant work.
  • Provides interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
  • Confirms change order requests, develops estimates, negotiates costs, and writes change orders.
  • Provides cost control on projects and quality control within discipline.
  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of construction staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • All jurisdictional certificates.
What You'll Bring
  • Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on smaller projects. Identifying and escalating risk and change management issues, with oversight from more experienced staff.
  • Leading a team for a smaller project or task order with no or few subconsultants.
  • Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver smaller projects or task orders.
  • Leveraging the Office Management Team to assist in implementing HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
  • Interfacing with your client-level peer on a smaller project or task order.
  • Providing technical guidance to team and task leads as well as performing portions of the technical work.
What We Prefer
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • 10 Years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III.

The approximate pay range for Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA is $145,993.46 - $228,348.77. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
