Job summary

The Law Offices of the Public Defender, 20th Judicial Circuit, Florida, is seeking qualified applicants for the Assistant Public Defender role (20th Circuit). A Florida Bar license is required; applicants may interview if awaiting admission and may join ahead of Bar results with the goal of admission later.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and to evaluate problems.

Responsibilities

• Accepting, researching, and preparing each case efficiently and expeditiously.
• Advising clients regarding plea offers, rights, options and sentencing.
• Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clients, families, witnesses and court personnel.
• Maintaining open lines of communications with clients and their families, witnesses and court personnel.
• Involving investigators, interns and other support staff as needed.
• Travel to various locations throughout the circuit for assignments and training.
