JOB

SUMMARY: Serve as assistant to the Prosecuting Attorney in representing the People of the State of Michigan in legal proceedings and prosecuting complaints at our Paw Paw office.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Represent Van Buren County as an appointed Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
• Primarily assigned to the 7th District Court in Paw Paw, Michigan.
• Review and screen warrant requests for authorization
• Handle all matters prosecuted in the district courts including but not limited to: formal hearings, misdemeanor pretrial conferences, misdemeanor jury and non-jury trials, felony level probable cause conferences and preliminary examinations
• May be tasked with participation in a specialty treatment court
• Assist and counsel various police agencies in matters involving criminal investigations and review of search warrants.
• May also be required to handle a circuit court level felony trial on a case by case basis.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

• Law Degree required.
• Michigan Bar membership required.
• Prior prosecutorial experience preferred but not required
• Knowledge of and adherence to applicable rules of professional conduct
• Legal research and writing ability
• Public speaking ability
• Familiarity with United States and Michigan Constitutions
• Knowledge of applicable case law, statutes, court rules, and rules of evidence
• Ability to think logically
• Ability to objectively analyze and evaluate facts and issues to form impartial judgments

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Work is performed under the general direction of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
