Job summary

Skender in Chicago is seeking an Assistant Project Manager, Self-Perform, to support planning, coordination, and execution of self-performed work across projects. You will work with project and field leadership to manage documentation, cost tracking, scheduling, and procurement while ensuring safety and quality.

The role emphasizes collaboration, lean practices, and building strong relationships with field teams, vendors, and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of construction, estimating, project engineering, or project management experience.
• Experience with self-perform construction, specialty contracting, estimating, or field operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, meeting minutes, issue logs, and closeout materials.
• Support project turnover from estimating to operations and coordinate with project and field teams to resolve scope, schedule, procurement, and constructability issues.
• Support estimating through quantity takeoffs, pricing, scope development, and vendor solicitation.
• Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and services, including tracking lead times, releases, and deliveries.
• Identify and document changes affecting project cost, schedule, or scope and support change requests.
• Develop and maintain schedules for self-perform work, including lookahead planning, manpower requirements, and material deliveries.
• Monitor field progress, productivity, quality, safety, and coordination through regular jobsite walks and communicate risks and constraints to project leadership.
• Assist field leadership in resolving issues related to drawings, RFIs, materials, labor, access, sequencing, and constructability while applying Lean construction principles.
• Support quality and safety standards through pre-installation planning, field coordination, and review of installed work and materials.
• Build strong relationships with field personnel, project teams, vendors, trade partners, clients, and design partners while identifying opportunities to improve quality, productivity, and profitability.

Who are you?

The Assistant Project Manager, Self-Perform is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of Skender’s self-performed work across assigned projects. This role partners with project and field leadership to manage project documentation, estimating, procurement, cost control, scheduling, change management, and production tracking while helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

Review contract drawings, specifications, scopes, and project requirements for assigned self-perform activities.

In this role you will…

• Assist field leadership in resolving issues related to drawings, RFIs, materials, labor, access, sequencing, and constructability while applying Lean construction principles.
