Job summary

Modigent is seeking an Assistant Project Manager – HVAC to support the execution of commercial HVAC and integrated mechanical projects. You will assist the Project Manager with coordination to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality across HVAC design, installation, and performance.

You will collaborate with field technicians, engineers, installers, subcontractors, and clients, manage documentation and risk, and report progress while upholding ASHRAE, IMC, and safety standards on active sites.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of project coordination or assistant PM experience in HVAC or related fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license; OSHA 10/30 encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing HVAC-related work across systems and ductwork.
  • Support development of project schedules, milestones, and resource allocation using industry tools.
  • Track costs, projections, budgets, and help manage variances and change orders.
  • Coordinate with field teams, vendors, and clients for procurement, submittals, fabrication, and installation.
  • Monitor progress with site visits and report status, risks, and safety compliance.
  • Assist in QA/QC and documentation such as RFIs, submittals, and close-out packages.

Position Overview

As an Assistant Project Manager – HVAC, you will support the successful execution of commercial HVAC and integrated mechanical projects by assisting the Project Manager with coordination of activities to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. The role focuses on HVAC system design, installation, and performance, contributing to sustainable, high‑performance mechanical outcomes for clients in commercial and critical environments across Modigent’s operating companies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing HVAC‑related work, including heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning systems, ductwork, piping, and integration with building infrastructure.
  • Support development and maintenance of project schedules, milestones, and resource allocation using industry‑standard tools.
  • Track project costs, prepare projections, monitor budgets, and assist in identifying and managing variances, change orders, or value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (field technicians, engineers, installers, subcontractors), vendors, and clients to ensure timely procurement, submittals, approvals, fabrication, and installation of HVAC equipment.
  • Monitor progress through regular site visits, report on status, risks, issues, safety compliance, and performance metrics to the Project Manager and stakeholders.
  • Assist in quality‑control and assurance processes, ensuring compliance with specifications, company standards, ASHRAE, IMC, codes, and safety protocols.
  • Help manage documentation, including contracts, RFIs, change requests, submittals, as‑built drawings, and project close‑out packages.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation efforts related to HVAC scope, equipment performance, technical integration, and project delivery.
  • Contribute to client communication, attend progress meetings, and provide updates on system status, commissioning, and performance.
  • Participate in project handover, system startup/commissioning support, testing/balancing coordination, and post‑project reviews to drive improvement.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience: Must have 2+ years of project coordination, assistant project management, or field/operations experience in HVAC, mechanical contracting, construction, or related fields. Recent graduates with engineering or construction‑management degrees who possess relevant experience or strong interest are encouraged.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license with clean record; OSHA 10‑hour or 30‑hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office‑based with frequent job‑site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally as needed.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel‑toed boots) on sites.
Required Skills
  • Familiarity with commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAV systems, rooftop units, piping/ductwork) and integration with other building systems.
  • Understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, cost control, procurement, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, Word); experience with project management software (Procore, Autodesk BIM 360, Bluebeam, or similar) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required and work in a fast‑paced, field‑oriented environment.
