Assistant Project Manager - Energy

Reports To: Chief Estimator

Location: San Jose, CA | Hybrid

Salary Range: $97,500 to $128,000

This position primarily involves working on-site at the project location or in office. Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on the role and project timeline.

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, education and experience. ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re seeking an Assistant Project Manager ready to positively impact a complex construction project. APMs are key to coordination between field, project, and customer teams. They maintain partnerships with vendors and subcontractors and assist in the review and tracking of project activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead team meetings and provide guidance to Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.
  • Partner with the scheduling department to gather data required to populate the CEI schedule.
  • Identify cost impacts associated with RFIs, submittals, and design changes and provide timely notification.
  • Price change orders consistently and in a timely manner for project manager review and approval.
  • Manage close‑out documents.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with 3rd parties and track and follow up on open items.
  • Maintain strong working partnerships with vendors and subcontractors. Coordinate accurate material releases and track material changes to align with construction schedule.
ABOUT YOU

You bring innovative and entrepreneurial thinking to a project with prior experience supervising and or providing guidance to others. You possess technical knowledge and communication skills, which are vital to an Assistant Project Manager’s success. You have experience providing in‑house support to Project Managers such as coordinating, tracking quantities for billing, and managing project activities and documentation. You bring a willingness to learn and are on the lookout for ways to improve existing processes.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

As an APM at Cupertino Electric, you will be empowered to learn the skills and competencies required to become a successful Project Manager. You will have the opportunity to execute Project Manager level activities within the safety of the larger Project Team. You will interact extensively with the CEI Production Team, customers, and vendor and subcontractor partners, building professional relationships and expanding your network.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that, in the sole judgment and discretion of the Company, would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications may qualify.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or similar preferred.

Licensure/Certifications: None required.

Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience specifically as a Project Engineer in electrical construction, or MEP experience in general contracting. Minimum five (5) or more years of related experience, including some time managing smaller projects.

Driving Record: Valid state‑issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
