Assistant Project Manager I | Power Delivery | Houston, TX | Direct Hire
This is an entry-to-mid level PM seat where you work directly under a Project Manager and get real ownership of subcontracts, schedules, and cost, not a desk job pushing paper.
Who should apply
Construction project engineers, field engineers, project coordinators, and assistant PMs with 2+ years in construction who want to move up the PM track. If you’ve been on job sites, written or administered subcontracts and POs, and want to learn EPC and design-build from the inside, this is built for you. Power delivery experience is a plus but not required.
What you’ll do
- Support the PM from kickoff to closeout across engineering, estimating, procurement, and construction
- Help build the initial project schedule and track progress against it
- Build subcontractor and vendor scopes of work and schedule exhibits, and help put together subcontract and PO packages
- Run monthly financial reviews and closeouts, and help prepare monthly project review reports for management
- Submit and track RFIs in the company’s document management system
- Join value engineering and constructability reviews
- Work with safety on the project safety plan and incident reporting
- Step in as PM when the PM is out, once you’ve proven you’re ready
- Handle warranty administration and post-construction cost review at the end of each job
What you bring
- Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (equivalent experience can substitute)
- 2+ years of construction project experience touching estimating, bidding, subcontracts and POs, scheduling, cost control, and document control
- Working knowledge of scheduling and project management software and strong Microsoft Office skills
- A self-starter who can work independently and still plays well on a team
- Willingness to be on site, a lot
The reality of the role
This one is heavily on site from the start of a project through completion. Expect 50-80 hours a week, 5-6 days a week, with extended stays at the job site when a project is out of town. If you want a hybrid or low-travel role, this isn’t it. If you want fast exposure to how these projects actually get built and paid for, it is.
What’s on offer
- Pay of $70K-$90K, with flexibility based on experience
- Per diem of at least $100/day, plus a fleet vehicle for site use
- 401(k) with an immediate match: 100% of the first 3% and 50% of the next 3%, always fully vested
- Medical (PPO and HDHP options with an employer HSA contribution), dental, and vision
- Company-paid short-term and long-term disability, plus basic life and AD&D at 2x annual earnings
- 10 paid holidays plus an extra day you choose, and paid time off
- Paid parental leave from day one: 12 weeks maternity, 2 weeks paternity
- Tuition assistance, professional development, pet insurance, and an employee assistance program
