Job summary

Conti Federal is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the project team and partner with Project and Field Management to deliver safe, high‑quality, profitable projects. The role focuses on risk management, cost estimation, contract management, and execution strategy to improve operating profit.

The APM position requires coordinating with Superintendents on means and methods, managing daily reports, and ensuring timely submittals and approvals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in site management or a related role.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting the management of construction projects and subcontractors.
  • Experience in project controls is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and P6.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Project Manager in developing means to optimize safety, cost, equipment use, schedule efficiency, and client communication.
  • Uses daily huddles to promote communication, resolve issues and share ideas for expeditious, profitable construction.
  • Reviews foremen's reports daily to ensure accurate data for income, cost, or inventory entries.
  • Supports project schedule development with the Superintendent and ensures plan execution.
  • Contributes to Four Week Look Ahead schedules by coordinating resources, submittals, approvals, lead times, restraints, and milestones.
  • Assists in preparing the 12‑month cash flow schedule and helps maximize cash flow through invoicing adherence and documentation of receivables and change orders.
  • Monitors material yields and adjusts operations to minimize waste.
  • Oversees subcontractors and coordinates meetings to update schedules, drawings, and specifications.

Job description

This position does not require relocation, however, it requires rotational travel for a minimum of 3 weeks at a time, with one weekend home (typical).

General Position Description

The Assistant Project Manager supports the project team and works in partnership with our Project and Field Management to build a safe, high quality, profitable project, while beating the estimate budgets and improving the total Operating Profit margin over the original bid. The Assistant Project Manager role is key to fostering great client relations and developing our employees.

This position is responsible for safe work plans, client negotiations, risk management, cost estimation, contract management and execution strategy. In addition, the APM is responsible for the business side of the project, supporting the Project Manager and site team in managing the project.

Responsibilities

Supports the Project Manager in the following:

  • Develops various construction means and methods with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to optimize safety, cost, equipment utilization, schedule efficiency, and communication with the client.
  • Utilizes daily huddles to promote communication, resolve issues and share ideas, so the projects are expeditiously and profitably constructed.
  • Manages/reviews all foremen's reports daily to ensure all information is properly recorded before any income, cost, or inventory entry.
  • Supports the development of the project schedule with the Superintendent and ensures the team is executing to the plan.
  • Actively participates in the development of the Four Week Look Ahead schedules with the Superintendents using basic logic to incorporate resources, submittals, approvals, lead times, restraints, and milestones.
  • Assists the preparation of the 12-month cash flow schedule
  • Maximizes cash flow by aggressively adhering to the project invoicing schedule and ensures the team accurately documents and submits all receivables, quantity as-builts, change orders and claims.
  • Monitors material yields and modifies operations to minimize waste.
  • Oversees subcontractors and holds the subcontractors accountable to their agreement. Attends the subcontractor coordination meetings to provide updates to schedules, drawings, and specifications.
  • Manages project submittals, shop drawings, and material certifications (submittal log or Expedition) so all are submitted and approved prior to the start of each package.
  • Ensures the required documentation is received in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • For Security Clearance Requirements - must be a US Citizen, as required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Two or more years of experience in site management or a related role.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting the management of construction projects and subcontractors.
  • Experience in project controls is a plus.
  • Working Knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and P6.
  • Local candidates preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling or stretching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
