Salary Range: $17.50 To $18.21 Hourly
This is a part-year position. Work hours during School Breaks (Spring, Fall, Winter, and Summer Camps) are not guaranteed and are dependent on enrollment and program needs. School Year Program runs August 17th, 2026 – June 11th, 2027.

Neighborhood House operates before and after school programs at four North and NE Portland elementary schools.
The Assistant Program Leader (APL) helps support the other teachers in developing and teaching curriculum each day as well as supporting students in social and emotional development. This position requires a person who is reliable, flexible, and ready to learn. This position is entry-level and provides a chance to gain professional experience working with youth, developing curriculum, and being a part of a community-based non-profit.
The APL will have the opportunity to design and implement a unique, age-appropriate curriculum that fits the mutual interest of themselves and the kids they are working with. APLs work closely with the Program Leader and Program Coordinator to provide safe and structured learning and socio-emotional development opportunities to children. APLs work 21 hours per week. Work hours revolve around programming times after school.
The Assistant Program Leader works with children in a 15:1 ratio, assisting with homework, group activities, recess and serving snacks. The APL supports with administrative duties as needed (make copies, turn in payments, etc.), communicates with parents and responds to emails and phone calls in a professional manner.
In this role you will collaborate with members of your site and other sites, as well as attend meetings and trainings. You will be required to attend 20 hours of training each licensing year and submit to ORO.
