Job summary

U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI, hosts the War Gaming Department responsible for research, analysis and gaming to inform Navy strategy and national defense policy.

Ideal candidates will hold a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) with substantial experience in designing and executing complex research projects, wargaming, modeling and simulation, and working in interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• A master's degree from an accredited university is required.
• A Ph.D. in an analytical or research-oriented field is preferred.
• Significant experience designing, executing, and reporting on complex research or analytical projects is required; experience in security or defense is preferred but not mandatory if the methodological experience is robust.
• Experience in interdisciplinary research teams, especially in wargaming, experimentation, modeling and simulation, or systems analysis, is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in teams to develop research, analysis, gaming and analytic reporting.
• Assess challenges for the Navy and the Nation and help define future Navy challenges.
• Support development of concepts of operations and innovation.
• Assist senior decision-makers on a wide range of operational and strategic challenges.
