Job description

Assistant Professor - Thoracic Medical Oncology

The Department of Thoracic/Head & Neck Medical Oncology (THNMO) at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking applicants for a full-time academic appointment at the assistant professor level. The position entails developing a clinical and translational research program focused on investigating targeted therapies and immunotherapies in Thoracic malignancies, with a particular emphasis on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with KRAS activating mutations.

The role offers an opportunity for professional growth and development through integration into a dynamic and active team comprising clinicians, physician-scientists, and investigators in clinical, basic science, and translational research. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the department's diverse ongoing research programs, focusing specifically on mechanisms of therapeutic response and resistance in oncogene-driven lung cancers with emphasis in KRAS-driven NSCLC and impact of co-mutations and tumor microenvironment in the development of predictive and prognostic biomarkers to guide targeted therapies and combination treatment strategies.

Applicants should hold or be eligible for medical licensure in Texas and must possess either an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with board eligibility or board certification in the subspecialty of medical oncology. Must have 5 years post degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships). Additionally, applicants should have experience in translational cancer research, particularly in investigating mechanisms of response, persistence, and resistance to targeted therapies using state-of-the-art genomic, spatial, and single-cell technologies. Candidates are expected to also have clinical research experience and expertise in the management of patients with thoracic malignancies, particularly oncogene-driven non-small cell lung cancer. An advanced fellowship in thoracic medical oncology is desired. Successful candidates should have demonstrated expertise and leadership in translational and clinical research focused on oncogene-driven lung cancers, including the development of innovative therapeutic strategies and biomarker-driven clinical trials. This position has a target base salary of $320,145 to $419,518 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
