Job summary

UW–Madison seeks applicants at the Assistant Professor level to launch a research program in the New Bioeconomy. The hire will mine microbial metabolisms, possibly using generative AI, to create functional systems, and contribute to teaching needs with new courses in quantitative microbiology, microbiome engineering, and related fields.

Qualifications

• PhD in microbiology, synthetic biology, agricultural/biological engineering, or related fields.
• Commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
• Ability to build an innovative, externally funded research program.

Responsibilities

• Develop and direct a well-recognized extramurally funded research program
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses and contribute to curriculum updates
• Mentor graduate students and supervise their research
• Participate in departmental and university governance
• Contribute to professional service and interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments, schools, and colleges
