The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an Assistant Professor-Spanish & Portuguese position in Urbana, IL. The candidate will develop a clear research agenda on Afro-Hispanic or Indigenous cultural production in the Hispanophone Caribbean or Latin America from 19th to 21st century, and teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.

S/he will establish an independent program, contribute to departmental service, and engage in curricular innovation within a research

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Spanish or related field.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and commitment to student mentorship.
• Record of publication indicative of an associate professor or promising research agenda for an assistant professor.

Responsibilities

• Develop a clear research agenda focusing on Afro-Hispanic or Indigenous cultural production in the Hispanophone Caribbean or Latin America (19th–21st century).
• Teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Establish and maintain an independent research program and provide service to the department and university.
