Assistant Professor, Social Work - 108250

The Department of Social Work at the University of West Florida (UWF), in Pensacola, Florida, invites applicants for an Assistant Professor (tenure-earning) 9-month, full-time position (# 108250) with an August 8, 2027, start date. The department offers both a Master in Social Work (MSW) that focuses on clinical practice in behavioral and health care settings and a generalist Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) degree, and it is expected that the chosen candidate will be able to teach across the BSW and MSW curricula with a primary emphasis in graduate courses. The BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). The salary for this in-person position will be commensurate with experience.


Primary responsibilities include the following:


  • Teaching courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, with a teaching load of three (three-credit hour) courses each fall and spring semester.

  • Engaging in scholarly activities leading to publishing impactful research.

  • Participation in doctoral dissertation committees at UWF.

  • Active engagement in curriculum development and department activities.

  • The faculty member is expected to work with municipal and regional service organizations.

  • Provide meaningful service to the department, college, university, and the profession.

  • On campus presence is required, participation in scheduled meetings, events, and maintaining office hours.


Minimum qualifications include:


  • Earned a doctoral degree (PhD, DSW) in Social Work from an accredited institution, or a Master in Social Work and a doctoral degree in a closely related field from an accredited institution. All but dissertation (ABD) will be considered if requirements for the Ph.D. are completed prior to the employment start date.

  • Experience teaching high-quality face-to-face and online teaching, academic research, and professional service in higher education.

  • Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with an expected emphasis at the graduate level.


Preferred qualifications for this Tenure-Track position include:

Teaching


  • Previous experience teaching research, policy, and/or theory at the BSW and MSW levels

  • Previous experience teaching direct practice courses at the BSW and MSW levels


Research


  • Innovative, timely, and meaningful research agenda with a record of peer-reviewed publication(s)

  • Strong background in quantitative methodology and advanced analytic methods

  • Commitment to grantsmanship.


Practice Experience


  • Clinically licensed social work experience with special preference given to facilitating group therapy, providing trauma-informed care, working with older populations, or providing clinical/ mental health services in the community, school, healthcare, or military settings

  • Policy practice experience across systems


Position qualifications include:


  • Demonstrated experience in delivering engaging, high-quality teaching.

  • One or more years’ experience teaching graduate level foundation and advanced clinical courses.

  • Experience mentoring of BSW and MSW students.

  • Experience guiding and mentoring MSW scholarly research activities.

  • Commitment to grantsmanship.


The position requires a criminal background check and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or license eligibility in the State of Florida or neighboring states.
