Job Description Summary
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking applicants for an open Assistant Professor position. The CLS department’s programs include NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist and Diagnostic Molecular Scientist undergraduate programs, and a Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science program. To support our goals, the Department invites applications for a full-time nontenure track Assistant Professor who will contribute to our clinical laboratory science programs.
Job Description
Job Duties
- Teach upper division undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in clinical laboratory science. Individuals with experience and expertise in immunology and microbiology are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Contribute to graduate level courses in clinical laboratory science.
- Coordinate and evaluate clinical/applied learning experience placements to ensure achievement of program goals and competencies.
- Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of program curriculum, policy, procedures, and outcomes as appropriate to maintain accreditation of degree programs.
- Participate in student advising and mentoring, and assessment of student achievement and progress.
- Serve on departmental, School of Health Professions, and University committees.
- Promote scholarly activity by clinical laboratory science faculty and students.

The Department: The Department programs include a Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) and a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS). The DCLS program prepares graduates for advanced practice as members of innovative interprofessional healthcare teams, and is one of three such programs in the U.S. The BS in CLS program includes two concentration options: clinical & molecular biotechnology. The clinical concentration is a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program. The molecular biotechnology concentration is a NAACLS-accredited Diagnostic Molecular Scientist program. The University of Kansas Medical Center: The University of Kansas (KU) is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. The KU Medical Center includes the Schools of Health Professions, Medicine, and Nursing, which together enroll about 2500 students. The KU Medical Center campus is located in a residential setting centrally situated in the greater metropolitan Kansas City area which encompasses seven counties over rolling terrain in Kansas and Missouri. Required Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in a CLS appropriate discipline
- MLS(ASCP) certification (other clinical laboratory certification credentials may substitute)
Work Experience
- Experience in a clinical laboratory
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience: Teaching experience in an academic-based NAACLS-accredited clinical laboratory science education program.
