Primary Purpose of Position

The Assistant Professor of Political Science is a full-time,tenure-track faculty member responsible for advancing theDepartment’s mission through excellence in teaching, scholarlyresearch, student mentorship, and service. The successful candidatewill provide high-quality undergraduate instruction, maintain anactive research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications andscholarly presentations, advise and mentor students, and contributeto departmental, college, university, professional, and communityinitiatives in support of student success and academicexcellence.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of History and Political Science is committed to fostering students’ aspirations, cultivating intellectualcuriosity, and preparing graduates for meaningful careers andengaged citizenship. Through a dynamic curriculum, students developstrong written and oral communication skills, ethical reasoning,critical thinking abilities, intercultural and global awareness,and expertise in scholarly research. Department programs encouragereflective inquiry, an appreciation of historical and politicalprocesses, and a deeper understanding of the forces that shapesociety.

The Department is one of six academic units within the College ofArts, Humanities and Social Sciences ( CAHSS ), which also includesthe Departments of Criminal Justice, English, Journalism and MassCommunication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts.CAHSS serves more than 1,950 students and employs over 160 facultymembers dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, andservice.

N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institutionand has been the largest historically Black university in thecountry for the past decade. With an enrollment of 15,275 studentsin Fall 2026, the university offers 59 undergraduate degreeprograms, 36 master’s programs, and 12 doctoral programs. Minimum Requirements

Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in Political Scienceor a closely related field.
