Job summary

Appalachian State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The appointment is tenure track and focuses on teaching core undergraduate and graduate statistics courses while developing an active research program.

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, data science or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours of statistics coursework.
A clear agenda for continuing scholarship.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the mathematical sciences, with a standard teaching load of 18 credit hours per year for research-active faculty
establish and maintain an active program of research or other scholarly activities that may include applying for external funding
participate in service activities including advising students, curriculum planning and assessment, working with professional organizations, and governance activities
provide support for the mathematical sciences community by encouraging intellectual curiosity through undergraduate and graduate research projects and academic/career advising
