Job summary

Mercer University’s Reg Murphy Center for Collaborative Journalism, in partnership with the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, seeks applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice.

The successful candidate will teach courses in data journalism and audio storytelling, contribute to community partnerships such as The Macon Newsroom, advise students, and participate in departmental and university service.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Journalism or related discipline required.
At least five years of experience in a professional newsroom or media organization with data journalism and/or audio storytelling.
Candidates must be able to teach Data Journalism and Audio Journalism courses.
Strong storytelling, interpersonal and organizational skills; experience teaching within a liberal arts curriculum.

Responsibilities

Teach journalism courses for the Journalism & Media Studies department.
Provide service to the University and stay active professionally with work for the Reg Murphy Center and external partners.
Contribute journalistic work to The Macon Newsroom and other partner news organizations.
Advise and mentor students and participate in departmental and university service requirements.
