Job Description

The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Comparative Politics with aregional focus on Africa, South Asia, or Southeast Asia. Candidates with transregional interests are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated potential for excellence in and enthusiasm for teaching, active and high-quality scholarship, and student advising and support are essential.

The faculty member would be expected to contribute required introductory courses in Comparative Politics (e.g. Comparative Global Politics), as well as higher level courses with a regional focus such as the Politics of Africa, or the Politics of South/Southeast Asia, as well as thematic courses on topics such as regional political economy, democratization, human rights, development, security etc. In addition, the candidate should possess a willingness to expand their teaching and research interests in response to emerging political issues.We welcome applications from candidates with strong multi-methodological skills, a pluralistic approach to social science methodology, and transdisciplinary interests that complementDavidson College’s growing interdisciplinary programs. The successful applicant will be expected to offer five courses per year (four in the first year of employment).Applications from both Ph.D. holders and very advanced ABDs will be considered.

The following materials are required: letter of application (1-2 pages); curriculum vitae (2-5 pages); three letters of reference; graduate school transcript; a statement addressing the candidate's research agenda and interests including ways undergraduates might be incorporated into these endeavors (3-5 pages); and a statement explaining the candidate’s demonstrated or potential excellence in and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching with an emphasis on connecting with students from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences (2-3 pages). The deadline for receipt of applications is September 20, 2027.
