Job summary

Florida Gulf Coast University seeks an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in scholarly research.

The successful candidate will contribute to both Criminal Justice and Forensic Studies programs, with instruction in face-to-face and online/hybrid formats. A strong emphasis on mentoring students and service to the department and university is expected.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Studies, Psychology with a Criminology focus, Law/Policy/Society, or closely related field.
• Experience in Statistics and Research Methods or Criminal Law and Policy.
• ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2027; if ABD, appointment at Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares, and teaches assigned courses, including syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.
• Delivers interactive, engaging lectures aligned with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.
• Maintains high standards of classroom instruction and engages in reflective self-assessment.
• Holds regular office hours, provides academic advising and student support.
• Utilizes the University learning management system and instructional technologies.
• Collaborates with departmental faculty on curriculum development and program advancement.
• Establishes and maintains an active research program with undergraduate involvement.
• Demonstrates scholarly publication and grantsmanship.
• Engages in professional development and service on committees.
• Complies with policies and performs other duties as assigned.
