Position: Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology

Salary: $86,000 to $90,000 per year (commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or a closely related field by August 1, 2026
• Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive psychology
• Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students
• Demonstrated ability and commitment to develop and maintain an active research program
• Evidence of research and scholarly productivity through peer‑reviewed publications and professional presentations
• Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low‑socioeconomic and first‑generation students

Preferred Qualifications

• High‑quality research program in cognitive psychology, evidenced by publications and scholarly activities
• Expertise in one or more areas such as sensation and perception, attention, thinking, memory, language, problem‑solving, learning, artificial intelligence, or emotion and cognition
• Strong teaching philosophy, pedagogical training, and positive teaching evaluations
• Interest in chairing master's thesis projects and serving on master's thesis committees
• Experience in faculty‑directed research involving graduate students
• Experience in department, university, community, or professional service
• Experience working with populations reflecting the demographic and socioeconomic composition of CSULB students
• Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies

Duties

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive psychology, including Sensation & Perception (PSY331), Cognitive Psychology (PSY332), and Seminar in Cognition (PSY634)
• Mentor undergraduate research projects
• Supervise master’s theses and serve on thesis committees
• Provide service at the department, college, and university level appropriate to the rank
• Engage in service to the department, college, university profession, and broader community
