Assistant Professor Position

Position Description:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine invites applications for one tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates that bring innovative approaches to studying fundamental problems related to the Department's key focus areas are encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include metabolism and metabolism related diseases, including gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, aging, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. (The scientific excellence of the candidates is of more importance than the specific area of research.) The successful candidate will be expected to establish a dynamic research program and aggressively pursue extramural funding. In addition, successful candidate will be expected to excel at undergraduate, graduate and medical school-level teaching while contributing to student success through mentoring and research training. Using innovative and modern pedagogy, the successful candidate will be expected to progressively contribute to the Department's teaching mission that incorporates both classroom and laboratory training of undergraduate, graduate and medical students.

Minimum Requirements:

• 1) Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences,


• 2) three years post-doctoral experience,


• 3) peer-reviewed research publications in the past three years,


• 4) teaching or mentoring experience,


• 5) must be eligible to work in the U.S.
