Lamar University in Beaumont, TX invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences. The role delivers didactic and laboratory MLS instruction, develops curriculum materials, and evaluates student learning to drive program improvement.

The position engages in scholarship, supports accreditation efforts, collaborates with clinical affiliates, mentors students, and contributes to service activities within the department, college, and university.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
• Current ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Some college-level teaching experience or potential to teach MLS courses.
• A minimum of three years working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences delivers didactic and laboratory instruction in areas including microbiology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, and hematology, develops curriculum materials, and evaluates student learning to drive continuous program improvement. The role advises and mentors students, supports accreditation and compliance efforts, collaborates with clinical affiliates, engages in scholarly activity, and provides service to the department, college, university, and community.

Essential Job Functions

Teaching

• Teach didactic and/or laboratory courses within the MLS curriculum.
• Develop course materials, assessments, and instructional strategies.
• Support the coordination of clinical rotations and other experiential learning opportunities.
• Conduct clinical site visits and collaborate with clinical affiliates.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
• Current ASCP (or equivalent) certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Some college-level teaching experience or potential to teach medical laboratory science courses.
• A minimum of Three (3) years working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical laboratory.

Desired Qualifications

• Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Sciences, or a closely related discipline (preferred).
• Knowledge of educational methods, curriculum design, and NAACLS accreditation standards and processes.
• Evidence of scholarly activity and professional service.
• Demonstrated interest in program development in laboratory science education.

Physical Requirements

Able to lift to 25 lbs. and to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
