Assistant Professor: Insect Ecologist

The University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in insect ecology, based on the Athens campus. The position includes research (70%), teaching (25%) and service (5%). The successful candidate will build a nationally prominent, extramurally‑funded research program that complements existing strengths in the Entomology Department, and will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring. The applicant will also be expected to be active in departmental and university service.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a collaborative, multidisciplinary research program focused on insect ecology and related areas such as aquatic and riparian insects, predator–prey and plant–insect interactions, and insect biodiversity/conservation.
• Secure extramural funding to support research activities.
• Teach courses in insect ecology, aquatic entomology, general entomology, insect natural history, and related subjects at the undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. levels.
• Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including engagement with facilities such as the Georgia Museum of Natural History, the UGA Black Fly Lab, and the CAES Research and Education Centers.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Entomology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated training and expertise in field and empirical techniques in entomological, ecological, and/or biological sciences.
• Record of scholarly activities in the field, including peer‑reviewed publications in leading journals for the subject area.
• Evidence of potential future success in acquiring research funding.
• Preferred: Postdoctoral research experience (≥1 year) and prior success in competitive funding.
• Preferred: Demonstrated teaching and mentoring experience (≥1 year).
• Preferred: Engagement with professional societies, outreach activities, and participation in service.
• Preferred: Experience with aquatic and riparian insect systems, predator–prey and plant–insect interactions, and insect biodiversity/conservation.
