The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) invites applications for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning approximately August 12, 2027.

Job Summary

Cal Poly is committed to a "Learn by Doing" philosophy. Faculty are expected to exhibit strong pedagogic skills and to remain proficient and current in their disciplines. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and master’s level courses and support and expand curricular development in industrial engineering. Candidates should have a specialization in data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), with expected application areas including healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and energy.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring range: $106,000 – $117,000 per year.

• Design, develop, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in industrial engineering.
• Support and contribute to curricular development and improvement.
• Establish and sustain an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students.
• Engage in service activities at the university, department, and professional levels.
• Participate in departmental and university teaching and learning initiatives, including inclusive and accessible pedagogy.

Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. in industrial engineering, operations research, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must prove award before the start of appointment.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student, staff, and faculty body.
• Demonstrated experience in developing externally funded applied research projects that involve students.
• Strong research interests and a track record of scholarly work of high quality as evidenced by external peer review.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in university‑level teaching and research.
• Experience with laboratory‑based instruction.
• Relevant industry experience.
• Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
