Role of the Position

The Department of Communication Studies at UNLV invites applications for a 12‑month Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence position, starting Fall 2026. The appointment includes serving as Undergraduate and Internship Coordinator and Chair of Assessment for the Department. The candidate will develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in traditional and online degree programs. We especially seek candidates with expertise in Instructional Communication, Assessment, and Learning, with experience or interest in workforce development/career readiness and experiential learning/community‑based learning practices. As a teaching‑intensive, full‑time, career‑track appointment, the role offers an opportunity for a scholar with a primary interest in innovative curriculum development and instruction. The teaching load is typically 12 credit hours per semester (a 4/4 course load) with an expectation to perform service. Candidates may receive reassigned time on a semester‑to‑semester basis related to the initiatives outlined in this job call with approval of the chair and the dean.

The position will assist in overseeing undergraduate curriculum management and assessment as Undergraduate Coordinator, serve as the principal contact for students and businesses seeking internships, and lead undergraduate degree program assessments and evaluations, including collecting data from students, faculty, and industry partners.

The department is launching five workforce readiness micro‑credentials at the undergraduate level tied to communication skill development in the workforce, and is also working to redevelop the M.A. program as an entirely online, professional‑oriented, practical, and workforce‑development/career‑readiness graduate degree program in Communication.
