The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering(CESE) at Santa Clara University (SCU), a Jesuit CatholicUniversity located in the heart of California's Silicon Valley,seeks a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professorlevel in hydraulic & water resources engineering with expertisein environmental fluid mechanics, river mechanics, sedimenttransport, hydrology, lake and reservoir engineering, and coastalengineering to begin Fall 2027. SCU and CESE are committed toservice for society's greater good; we seek candidates whoseresearch, teaching, and/or service have prepared them to helpfulfill our commitment, and whose professional or life experienceswill enrich the department and who can serve as a role model to adiverse student population. All SCU faculty engage in teaching,research, and service.

The ideal candidate will have interest and expertise in teachingundergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics, hydraulicdesign, open channel hydraulics, surface and groundwater hydrology,water resources engineering, water resources modeling, andspecialized courses relevant to their area of expertise. Thecandidate may also be asked to teach other courses depending ondepartmental needs. The successful candidate will be expected todevelop their own scholarly research, including mentoringundergraduate and graduate students (our department only offers aM.S. graduate degree). Developing a productive and impactfulresearch program is an expectation of the position. Service to thedepartment, school, university, community, and profession isexpected as appropriate.

The School of Engineering is in the Sobrato Campus for Discoveryand Innovation - a 300,000 square foot building that housesengineering and science departments, teaching facilities andlaboratories. SCU involvement in humanitarian engineering includesthe Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship and the FrugalInnovation Hub, offering opportunities for engaging with the localcommunity and global partners. SCU faculty often work with otherresearchers in our dynamic region, at neighboring educationalinstitutions, governmental laboratories and agencies, non-profitinstitutions, and private companies.

Additional Information: SCU Faculty are teaching-scholarswho balance a commitment to quality teaching with active programsof research. A full-time teaching load is 7 courses over three 10-week quarters, with a 1-course reduction for research. Additionalcourse reduction is given to assistant professors during the firsttwo years. Faculty receive scholarship support through sabbaticalsand travel funds. Housing assistance is available.
