About the Department: The Department of Finance, Financial Planning, and Insurance offers a B.S. with specializations in Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, and Risk Management and Insurance, and an MBA. The department serves close to 1,000 students and supports student engagement through initiatives and organizations such as the FMA–CSUN chapter. A highlight is the student-centered investment funds managed by undergraduates, contributing to careers in investment management and corporate finance.

The department consists of 11 full-time tenure-track faculty dedicated to advancing research and delivering a comprehensive curriculum. Faculty benefit from access to research databases (e.g., WRDS) and teaching resources. The department also provides faculty with resources such as BOX, AWS, Qualtrics, SPSS, Matlab, Mathematica, and Camtasia.

Research from the Finance faculty has appeared in journals such as Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Review, and Review of Finance. Position: The Department of Finance, Financial Planning and Insurance at CSUN is seeking two tenure-track faculty members in Finance at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will teach Finance courses and have research interests in Finance and related fields. The position requires an ongoing program of scholarship in finance and maintaining the criterion for “Scholarly Academic” under AACSB accreditation.

In addition to teaching and research, the position requires weekly office hours, participation in faculty meetings, involvement in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. Candidates will be held to the standards of the college and department for tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the candidate will help the department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Finance, Financial Economics, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing original research on finance
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for excellence in university-level teaching (in-person and online) in areas such as investment, corporate finance, and finance electives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, impactful research in Finance
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body
  • Experience or potential for using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Experience or potential for creating a student-centered learning environment

Application Deadline: Preferred application deadline is September 26, 2025; applications received after this date will still be considered on an as-needed basis. The position will remain open until filled. Department representatives will conduct initial on-site interviews at the FMA Annual Meeting in October 2025 in Vancouver, BC. A Zoom option is available for those not attending FMA. Potential candidates will be invited for campus visits thereafter.
