Job summary

The School of Information at San José State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Ethical AI, Information Generation & Retrieval, and Knowledge Systems, starting August 2027. The successful candidate will advance AI governance, education, and research across online and on-site programs.

We seek candidates who promote inclusive teaching and contribute to curricular leadership for the Teacher Librarian Program while expanding national and international reach.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in Library and Information Science, Information Science, Informatics, Information Studies, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Data Science, Knowledge Management, or closely related field.
• Evidence of scholarship in artificial intelligence and intelligent information retrieval systems; critical technology studies; data stewardship and governance.
• Awareness of educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.

Responsibilities

• Develop curricula for undergraduate and graduate courses across the School of Information’s programs.
• Advise students pursuing careers in libraries, archives, information management, user experience, digital curation, knowledge management, data services, AI-enabled information services.
• Conduct an active program of research, scholarship, and/or creative activity.
• Participate in service activities that support the School, University, profession, and broader information community.
• Engage in shared governance and perform faculty duties in Canvas LMS.
• Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive teaching for a diverse student population.
